Henri D.
Emery was born Feb. 7, 1950. He was the youngest of 6 born to William and
Marie-Jean Emery of Central Falls, RI.
Henry was a
Boy Scout for 7 years, at St. Mathew’s Church in Central Falls, RI, achieving
the Life Scout Rank, and continued on with his Scout Troop as its adult leader
for two more years. He was also a student Clown, Magician and Santa Claus at
various children’s parties and enjoyed making children laugh. He was also
very interested in and involved with a variety of craft designs and
construction.
Graduating
high school from Sacred Heart Academy in Central Falls, RI in 1968, Henri
attended Fitchburg State Teacher’s College in Fitchburg, MA for a short period
then transferred to the Computer Processing Institute of Rhode Island from
which he graduated as a Computer Programmer.
Other
professions included teaching 5th grade to Sacred Heart School
children in Sharon, MA, Security Guard for RI Bureau of Investigation and
Protection, Guard for Pinkerton Security Service, Owner/Operator of the
Belmont Diner in Pawtucket, RI, Owner/Operator of G&H Catering Co in
Cumberland, RI and, Owner/Operator of H. D. Emery Jewelry in Pawtucket, RI.
Family was
very important to Henri. He took it onto himself to generate the maternal
Leblanc family tree, dating it as far back as the 1600s. He was never happier
than when the whole Leblanc families would gather for their annual
get-together, where as many as 200+ would be present.
Very
community conscious Henri ran for the office of Councilman for the 5th
district of Central Falls, RI, and was a member of the Central Falls Auxiliary
Police, Knights of Columbus, Swinging Squares Square Dance Club and Sacred
Heart Alumni Association.
Henri was
husband to Gail Harrop, Stepfather to Michael Harrop and Father to Henri II
and Christine Emery. He died at the young age of 39, on January 3, 1990
following a two-year battle with ALS.
